Baysox start second half with a win

Baysox 2016In their first game back post All-Star Break, the Baysox returned to Bowie in style. In their final plate appearance, the Baysox treated the home field crowd to a 4-3 walk-off win versus the Richmond Flying Squirrels after a wild pitch on an intentional ball. The walk-off win was the first for the Baysox since May 18 against the Reading Fightin Phils.

The score remained knotted at 3 headed into the bottom of the ninth with Flying Squirrel reliever Rodolfo Martinez on the mound. Borbon singled to left field, extending his hit streak to eight games, followed by a Garabez Rosa single that advanced Borbon to third base. With Chance Sisco batting, on an intentional ball attempt, Martinez threw a wild pitch that allowed the Borbon to score to secure the 4-3 victory.

In the top of the first inning, the Flying Squirrels got on the board first courtesy of back-to-back doubles by Christian Arroyo and C.J. Hinojosa off of Baysox starter John Means for the 1-0 lead.

The Baysox captured the lead in the bottom half of the second inning. Quincy Latimore sparked a two-out rally for the Baysox with a single off Richmond starter Kyle Crick. Drew Dosch followed with a home run to right field to give Bowie a 2-1 lead.

The Squirrels refused to be denied. In the fifth inning veteran Darren Ford hit a lead-off double to right field and moved to third base on a Steven Duggar groundout. Arroyo then brought Ford home with a single to left field before moving to second base on a Hinojosa single to left field. With two outs, Hunter Cole plated another run with a single to left field to give Richmond a 3-2 lead.

The bottom of the seventh frame saw Adrian Marin draw a lead-off walk from Richmond reliever Preston Claiborne and move to second base on a sacrifice bunt. After a Rosa strikeout, Christian Jones replaced Claiborne on the mound and issued a walk to Sisco. Joey Terdoslavich followed with a single to left field that plated Marin to tie the score 3-3.

Means threw five innings and allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out three batters in the no decision. Reliever Michael Zouzalik threw two scoreless innings, allowing one hit with a strikeout. Reliever Bobby Bundy pitched a scoreless eighth inning, allowing one hit and striking out the side.
