Baysox drop SeaWolves for series win

Baysox 2016The Baysox scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a tie game and beat the Erie SeaWolves 2-1 Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Baysox secured a series victory over the SeaWolves.

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Hyun Soo Kim played with the Baysox on Major League Rehab Assignment. He hit lead-off as the designated hitter and finished the game 0-for-3 with two strikeouts.

The Baysox got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning against Erie starter Josh Turley. Sharlon Schoop hit a lead-off single to left field and Drew Dosch followed with a one-out double to center field that plated Schoop and gave Bowie a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves tied the game in the top of the fourth inning against Baysox starter Matthew Grimes. Jason Krizan hit a one-out double and Dominic Ficociello then drew a walk. Mike Gerber then came through with a two-out double to right field to plate a run and even the score 1-1.

Bowie retook the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning against Erie reliever Angel Nesbitt. Quincy Latimore hit a one-out single to center field and moved to second base on a wild pitch. With two outs, Chris O’Brien brought Latimore home with a single to right field to give the Baysox a 2-1 lead.

Grimes threw 6.1 innings and allowed one run on five hits while striking out three and walking six in the no decision. Reliever Scott McGough threw 1.2 scoreless innings behind Grimes, allowing two hits and striking out four. Reliever Stefan Crichton earned his first save of the season by throwing a scoreless ninth inning.

Nesbitt took the loss for Erie, throwing 2.1 innings and allowing one run on two hits with a strikeout.  

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, July 27 for a seven-game that concludes against the Hartford Yard Goats. Mutt Monday begins at 7:05 p.m. as the Baysox being a three-game series against Hartford. LHP Jayson Aquino will make the start for the Baysox and he will be opposed by RHP Alex Balog (2-0, 3.98).
