Shutout ends Bowie’s winning streak

Baysox 2016The Baysox outstanding offensive run came to a halt for an evening in Manchester, NH as three Fisher Cats pitchers shutout the Baysox 2-0. The defeat ended a season-long six game win streak for Bowie and ended a five-game losing streak for New Hampshire.

The Baysox fell behind early with two defensive miscues. With a runner at first base and one down, Baysox starter Jayson Aquino threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt allowing the runner second. With two down, Ryan Lavarnway hit a hard groundball to the left of Baysox third baseman Tucker Nathans. Nathans made a diving stab but his throw was low and it skidded beyond Joey Terdoslavich allowing the runner to come around from second to score.

Bowie had chances early to come back but could not. Garabez Rosa was stranded at second base after a two-out double in the first inning. The Baysox left two aboard in the second inning and Glynn Davis was stranded at third base in the fifth inning after his one-out double.

New Hampshire added an insurance run on a solo home run off the bat of Jorge Flores with two down in the fifth inning. It came on a 3-2 pitch and was the second of the year for the New Hampshire shortstop.

Aquino (3-5) worked well, allowing just the one earned run in six innings. In his last two starts, Aquino has allowed one earned run in 21 innings.

The series concludes with the rubber match Sunday, June 12th at 1:35 p.m. with Jayson Aquino David Hess on the hill. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior on wnav.com and via the Tune-In Radio App by searching Baysox.

The Baysox return home Tuesday, June 14th for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch to open a three-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs. Get tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com
