Schuh, Pruski, and Gill highlight West County Growth

Schuh west countyLast week, County Executive Steve Schuh, Commerce Secretary Mike Gill, and Councilman Andrew Pruski highlighted the impact of the Odenton Town Center Master Plan (OTCMP), as well as other state and local economic initiatives in and around Odenton.

“Our economic efforts would not be effective in Odenton without a blueprint to ensure this area grows effectively,” said Schuh. “The Odenton Town Center Master Plan is the most collaborative planning effort in any jurisdiction in recent memory.”

“I am very proud of the work done by everyone on this important economic engine,” said Councilman Andrew Pruski.

In support of the OTCMP, the County Executive sought and received approval from the County Council to undertake a Transit Oriented Development around the Odenton MARC Station to encourage the responsible development needed to make the town center a success. The County is supporting the project thru Tax Incremental Financing, or a “TIF”.

The County Executive also highlighted his administration’s commitment to reducing the barriers to job creation and new business formation.  In February 2016, the County Council passed the largest fee cut in county history, a 30 percent reduction in water and sewer connection fees charged to new homeowners and new businesses. This fee cut will pump $75 million into our local economy.

The event also highlighted the Maryland Department of Commerce and county efforts to bring new businesses to Odenton. The most recent addition is the Odenton Ruth Chris Steakhouse, set to open this fall.

Commerce Secretary Mike Gill lauded Anne Arundel County as a jurisdiction that is “doing it right.”

The Odenton Town Center Master Plan was adopted April 18, 2016 (Bill No. 20-16) and became effective June 5, 2016. It can also be found here: http://www.aacounty.org/departments/planning-and-zoning/long-range-planning/odenton-town-center/.
