Local addiction treatment center provides innovative solution to heroin epidemic

heroinIt is widely known that our communities are in the midst of a devastating opioid epidemic that is killing Marylanders in record numbers. The glaring truth is that the addiction treatment industry has been ineffective and insufficient to meet the needs of a growing population of addicts. However, one local treatment center is changing the status quo for addiction treatment, and showing promising results. Historically, most  inpatient treatment options have consisted of group therapy, sterile environments, and highly medicated patients- creating a revolving door of getting help, relapsing, then repeating the cycle indefinitely. As public health officials and addiction professionals scramble to find lasting solutions, the inpatient care model has been largely ignored, with most local facilities continuing to provide inadequate opiate rehabilitation.

The standard success rate for Heroin addiction in the treatment industry is just 3%- leaving too many addicts behind. Those numbers are unacceptable, which is why Serenity Acres Treatment Center is pioneering a shift in how the addiction treatment industry approaches care. Serenity Acres is the only facility in Maryland to offer true individualized care, with daily one-on-one treatment, holistic therapies blended with conventional medicine, home-like surroundings, and personalized treatment plans. Therapy and emotional healing are promoted over medicinal maintenance, allowing clients to address and move beyond the root causes of their addiction. There are no shortcuts to recovery- each addict has to be met on an individual level, and with this core belief, Serenity Acres has seen unprecedented success rates upwards of 70%. Until other local facilities follow suit, Serenity Acres remains the exception to the rule in local addiction treatment.
