County recognized for “Not My Child” anti-heroin campaign

Seal-01The National Association of Counties (NACo) will present Anne Arundel County with a 2016 Achievement Award for its program entitled “Not My Child Anti-Heroin Campaign” in the category of Civic Education and Public Information.

“Our ‘Not My Child” heroin and opioid education program is helping families across our county understand the dangers of addiction,” said County Executive Steve Schuh. “I thank Nancy Schrum, the staff of our Office of Constituent Services, and our outstanding volunteers for their dedication to spreading awareness in our communities.”

As a 2016 Achievement Award winner, Anne Arundel County will be presented the award at the Achievement Awards Luncheon on July 24, 2016 at NACo’s 2016 Annual Conference and Exposition in Los Angeles County, California. NACo will list each award winner in the event’s program booklet, and honor the Best of Category winners on stage.

County Executive Steve Schuh declared the heroin opioid crisis a public health emergency in January 2015. The Anne Arundel County Heroin Action Task Force produced series of  recommendations in February 2015 to help address the crisis that are currently being implemented throughout county government.
