Baysox blow 9th inning lead and lose to Erie in 10

Baysox 2016Jerry Uht Park has been a tough park of late for the Baysox, who dropped a fifth consecutive one-run game in Erie on Saturday night in ten innings 5-4.

Tied at 3-apiece in the ninth inning the Baysox grabbed the lead. Adrian Marin singled into right-center with two down and Chance Sisco walked. That set the table for Garabez Rosa. Rosa hit a hard groundball single into center to score Marin and put Bowie on top 4-3.

But Erie battled back. Corey Jones led off the bottom of the ninth with a double to left field and was lifted for a pinch hitter Ismael Salgado. With two down, Salgado was at third base when Casey Frawley singled on the ground into left field to tie the game.

The ballgame headed to extra innings where the Baysox went down in order in the top of the tenth inning. Erie responded in the bottom half. With one down, Drew Longley was hit by a 3-2 pitch. Harold Castro then singled to right and Salgado, in his Eastern League debut stepped to the plate. He would single down the right field line to score Longley with the game-winning run. For Erie it was a fourth walk-off win at Jerry Uht park against the Baysox this season.

Bowie used five pitchers in the defeat working a bullpen by committee game. Stefan Crighton, David Richardson, Jimmy Yacabonis and Donnie Hart got the game to the ninth inning. The loss went to Jason Stoffel who went to 2-3 on the season. The Baysox are now 5-15 in one-run games this season and 2-7 in extra inning games.

The Baysox look to avoid the sweep with John Means on the hill for the 1:35 p.m. start. Coverage begins 20-minutes prior on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis.

Bowie returns home on Tuesday, June 21st night for the beginning of a six-game homestand that will see both Trenton and Altoona come to town. Get tickets at 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com
