Police investigate Glen Burnie murder last night, make arrest this morning

On Saturday, May 7, 2016, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department responded for a domestic incident in the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Upon arrival, officers located an apparent crime scene where an assault occurred in the street but no victim(s) could be located. As the investigation continued to unfold, information was developed that two adult females had arrived at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center with injuries sustained during the aforementioned domestic assault.

The first victim, identified as Charlotta Lynn Barkley a 46 year old female from the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court displayed severe trauma to her upper body. Ms. Barkley was treated for her life threatening wounds, but later succumbed to her injuries this morning (May 8, 2016) at 2:12 a.m. A second adult female, also displayed injuries to her upper extremities. She was treated for her injuries at BWMC and later released.

Anne Arundel County Homicide Detectives responded to BWMC as well as the crime scene located in the 7800 block of Tall Pines Court. Evidence Technicians worked with detectives in locating and securing items of evidentiary value. Evidence from the crime scene coupled with witness interviews identified the suspect in the murder of Ms. Barkley as her boyfriend, Michael Carroll Wilson a 42 year old black male, 6’05 tall and approximately 220 pounds. Michael Wilson had an on again off again relationship with Ms. Barkley going back several years.

 

Investigation revealed that an argument had occurred between Michael Wilson and Ms. Barkley in the parking lot of 7800 block of Tall Pines Court. During the argument, Michael Wilson displayed some type of sharp/pointed weapon and assaulted Ms. Barkley where she received multiple injuries. As the assault occurred the second victim tried to intervene resulting in the injuries to her hand. The suspect, Michael Wilson, then fled the area on foot. An arrest warrant was obtained charging Michael Wilson with the following charges related to the murder of Ms. Barkley and the assault on the second victim: First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, Attempt First Degree Murder, Attempt Second Degree Murder, two counts of First and Second Degree Assaults, two counts of Reckless Endangerment and two counts of Dangerous Weapon with Intent to Injure.

An extensive search was conducted with patrol, Air and K-9 units throughout the night. On Sunday, May 08, 2016 at approximately 8:46 a.m., as detectives continued scouring the area they saw a subject matching the description of Michael Wilson. The subject fled on foot from law enforcement authorities and after a brief foot pursuit he was apprehended in the 7800 block of Crain Highway South. Once apprehended, the subject was positively identified as Michael Wilson. Wilson was arrested and booked on the above charges.

The deceased will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner located in Baltimore where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
