Navy’s Chris Swain signs as free agent with San Diego Chargers

Navy-South-Florida-October-31-2015-10Senior fullback Chris Swain has agreed to terms with the San Diego Chargers as a free agent. Swain joins quarterback Keenan Reynolds as members of the 2015 Navy Football team that will be in an NFL camp.

“I am very excited about the opportunity that the Chargers are giving me and I fully intend to take advantage of it,” said Swain.  “San Diego is a great organization located in a Navy team in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  I can’t think of a better place to be.”

“What a great day for the Navy Football program and the Brotherhood to have Keenan drafted and for Chris to sign as a free agent,” said Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo.  “Chris is a terrific player and an even better person and I think the Chargers are going to be very happy when they get him in camp and they see what he can do both running the ball and blocking.

“Chris did tremendous things for us at the Naval Academy and I’m excited for him to get an opportunity to prove that he can play at the next level,” said Navy fulbacks coach Mike Judge.  “He’s a smart, hard working, dependable player who has the skills that translate to the NFL.”

Swain was a starter in 20 games at fullback over his career, including each of the 13 games this year.  He rushed for 2,290 yards in his career, including 1,023 yards as a senior.  He and Reynolds became just the second duo in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.  Swain was named All-East and became just the fourth player in school history to be invited to the Senior Bowl.
