BWI welcomes Allegiant Air

allegiant airBaltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport today welcomed the start of service from Allegiant Air, a new carrier for the airport.  Allegiant launched flights today between BWI Marshall and two markets, Cincinnati, OH and Savannah, GA.  In coming weeks, the airline will add roundtrip service between BWI Marshall and four other cities: Asheville, NC; Knoxville, TN; Lexington, KY; and Tulsa, OK.

“We welcome Allegiant and the thousands of passengers the airline will fly to our region,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer of BWI Marshall.  “Allegiant is a growing airline that will bring more visitors and boost economic growth.  Local residents will also enjoy convenient, low fare flights to new markets.”

Allegiant Air is the low-cost airline subsidiary of Allegiant Travel Company.  Based in Las Vegas, Allegiant uses low base airfares to link travelers in small cities across the U.S. to world-class destinations.  The company also provides other travel-related services, such as hotel rooms, rental cars, and attraction tickets.  Allegiant continues to grow, now offering low-fare service to over 100 markets nationwide, more than any other domestic low-cost carrier.  

Passenger traffic is the on the rise at BWI Marshall, with new airlines and added service.  Through February 2016, BWI Marshall recorded eight-straight monthly records for passenger traffic.  The airport set a new all-time annual record in 2015 with more than 23.8 million passengers.
