Baysox stomp Erie in double header sweep

Baysox 2016After last night’s rain out, the Baysox were able to sweep the Saturday night doubleheader against the SeaWolves to open their three-game series. The Baysox took the first game 2-1 and came out ahead in game two with a 5-1 win to get back to .500 (14-14) on the season.

During game one, both team’s bats were quiet to start the game. Bowie broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third as Julio Borbon was able to provide the spark the Baysox needed with a bunt single. He advanced to third base after a Mike Yastrzemski single to right field. Baltimore Orioles infielder, Jimmy Paredes, brought Borbon home with a single to center field, while Chance Sisco continued his hot hitting and plated a second run with a single to left field to give the Baysox a 2-0 lead.

The SeaWolves responded in the top of the fourth inning when Jeff McVaney hit a lead-off double to center field. He eventually scored on a ground out off the bat of Dean Green to cut the Baysox lead in half, 2-1.

No more runs were scored in the game as both teams relied on their pitching staff heavily. Baysox started Chris Lee earned the win and remained perfect on the year after he threw six innings and allowed just one run on five hits. Baysox reliever Ashur Tolliver pitched a scoreless seventh inning for his second save of the season.

Erie Starter Myles Jaye remains threw all six innings in the loss for Erie, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking three.

In the second game of the double header the teams wasted no time to get the bats rolling. In the top of the first inning, Jason Krizan hit a two-out solo home run to right-center field to give the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first frame, the Baysox took the lead. Borbon manufactured a run by hitting a lead-off single to center field and then stealing second base. Borbon moved to third base on a Paredes groundout and then scored on a Yastrzemski single that deflected off of starting pitcher Confessor Lara. After Joey Terdoslavich walked, Tucker Nathans hit a ground-rule double to center field that plated a run. Chris O’Brien followed with a sacrifice fly that scored a third run and put the Baysox up 3-1.

SeaWolves reliever Michael Crotta came into the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Borbon hit another lead-off single to left field, stole second base for the second time in the contest and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Austin Green. Paredes followed suit with a single to left field to bring Borbon home and Yastrzemski made it three consecutive singles to put runners on the corners. Another throwing error on a stolen base by Yastrzemski allowed Paredes to score to give the Baysox the 5-1 advantage. The score and lead would remain intact.

Baysox game 2 starter, Stefan Crichton threw three innings and allowed one run on one hit while striking out four. Reliever Eric Fornataro earned his second win of the year by throwing two scoreless innings, forfeiting just two hits and striking out three SeaWolves batters.

Lara took the loss for Erie, he was chased after throwing one inning and allowing three runs on three hits and one walk.
