Great Strides walk for Cyctic Fibrosis coming to Annapolis

Cystic FibrosisThe Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will be holding its annual Great Strides walk in Annapolis, Maryland this June. This national walk brings together tens of thousands of walkers to participate in events that help generate critical funds to fight this inherited fatal disease.

The walk will take place at Navy Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland on June 4th and will be open to the public. Check-in is at 10:00 AM with the walk beginning at 11:00 AM.

Great Strides, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s largest national fundraiser, unites families, corporations, CF care centers, student groups and other dedicated friends with the common goal of finding a cure for CF, a disease that can cause debilitating lung infections and other health complications. The 2016 Great Strides fundraising goal for the Maryland Chapter is to raise $1.08 million to help support CF research, education, and care to find a cure for all people with cystic fibrosis, part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s mission. Last year our chapter raised over $1 million through our Great Strides walk, contributing to over $2 million raised in 2015.

Fifty years ago, most children with CF did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, people with CF are living into their 30s, 40s, and beyond. But there is still an estimated 30,000 adults and children in the United States, and 70,000 people worldwide, who have CF and more than 10 million Americans are symptomless carriers of a defective CF gene. Funds raised through Great Strides have helped spur dramatic progress in the lives of those who have CF.

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is an accredited charity of the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance. Local sponsors of Great Strides include MECU Credit Union and Chiesi USA Pharmaceuticals, as well as Younger Toyota Blue Canopy, Brick Bodies, and Care first.
