Former Board member, Rebecca Fortney, gifts AAMC $2.2 million

Rebecca FortneyAnne Arundel Medical Center’s (AAMC) Breast Center is renamed the Rebecca Fortney Breast Center in honor of a philanthropist and former board member who gifted $2.2 million to the hospital’s foundation.

Rebecca (Greco) Fortney, who passed away in 2013, made this significant planned gift to the AAMC Foundation through her estate. The Fortney family estate presented AAMC’s Breast Center with a $1.7 million donation and a $500,000 donation to its Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE) inpatient unit.

“Becky was a true champion of this community, lending her time and philanthropic support not only to AAMC, but several wonderful non-profit organizations,” said Jan Wood, AAMC Foundation president and chief development officer. “Becky’s legacy ensures the health of our community for years to come.”

AAMC will use the gift to advance community health through expanded programs and services advocacy, research, and patient education in the Fortney Breast Center, as well as to expand specialized care and services for its older patients on the ACE unit.

“Becky always wanted to help people,” explains her brother Dennis Fortney. “The more successful she became, the more she wanted to help. She saw a need and filled it.”
