Baysox struggle early in the season with another loss

Baysox2016A three-run lead turned into a three-run deficit as Akron pushed home six seventh inning runs to upend the Baysox 8-5 on Friday night from Canal Park. A solid six-inning effort from starter David Hess went was spoiled in the defeat.

Tied at 1-apiece in the fourth inning the Baysox doubled their way to the lead. After Quincy Latimore walked, Chance Sisco doubled him home with a shot down the right field line. Two batters later it was Adrian Marin doubling home Sisco. Immediately following, Drew Dosch joined the fray with a double to left-center off a breaking ball and Bowie was on top 4-1.

Hess would carry a three-run lead through the sixth inning. He scattered nine hits allowing two runs, just one of which earned in his six inning effort.

Trailing 5-2 the Akron offense went to work. Yhoxian Median doubled over the third base bag. Then a hit by pitch and walk loaded the bags. With one down, Bradley Zimmer lined a game-tying triple over the head of centerfielder Julio Borbon and the RubberDucks rally was in motion.

Akron’s Bryson Myles singled home the lead run through a drawn in infield and a two-out, two-run home run from Jeremy Lucas put the finishing touches on the decisive rally. In all, ten men batted and six scored in the Akron seventh.

It was the fifth time this season the Baysox have allowed three runs or more in an inning. The loss was a fourth in a row and seventh in the first eight games for the Baysox.

Bowie looks to reverse course Saturday afternoon with Parker Bridwell getting the start. First pitch is at 2:05 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in Annapolis. The broadcast will begin on Tune-In Radio and will hit the airwaves following the Navy Lacrosse game.
