2016 Astle Speaker: Kelsey Timmerman

The event is open to the public. No cost.

When journalist Kelsey Timmerman wanted to know where his clothes came from and who made them, he began an adventure that would take him from Honduras to Bangladesh to Cambodia to China and back again. Now he travels the world and shares the stories of the people he meets, educating audiences and promoting dialogue about how to improve our world economy.
The author of the New York Times bestseller, Where Am I Wearing: A Global Tour to the Countries, Factories, and People That Make Our Clothes, he takes audiences on a journey through Asia and Latin America. From a 20-something t-shirt maker in Honduras to a single mother of two in Bangladesh, Timmerman humanizes the issues of globalization, intimately describing the connection between impoverished garment workers’ standards of living and the all-American material lifestyle, bridging the gap between global producers and consumers.
Sports Psychologist to Speak: The Fulfilling Ride: A Parent’s Guide to Helping Athletes Have a Successful Sport Experience
Wednesday, April 20 @ 7:00p
The event is open to the public. No cost.
Registration required – available on Severn’s website.
Gregory A. Dale, PhD, professor of sport psychology and sport ethics at Duke University, will talk about lessons learned through athletics – how to sacrifice and work toward a common goal with teammates, how to call up talents under pressure, how to play a lead role and supporting role on a team, how to handle victory and defeat with grace and respect – and how they are transferable to the classroom and life in general.
