Anne Arundel Community College is bringing three renowned jazz musicians to campus this spring for clinics and concerts as part of its World-Class Jazz Series.

Vocalist Jeanne Gies and guitarist Jack Wilkins are featured Saturday, March 5. Pianist Jerry Ascione is the featured performer on Saturday, April 16.

The clinics are free and open to the public. They are at 2 p.m. in the Cade Center for Fine Arts Room 224. The concerts begin at 8 p.m. in the Humanities Building Room 112. General admission to the concerts is $20, with a discounted $10 for active military, senior citizens, groups, outside students, children under 10 and AACC employees and $5 for AACC students with valid IDs.

Gies is a New York City-based singer/songwriter and performs with jazz instrumentalists. She presides over the popular Jazz Guitar and Vocal Workshop each year in Bolzano, Italy. Wilkins is a master at jazz guitar known for his use of imaginative chords. He has played internationally since the early 1970s.

Ascione joined the U.S. Naval Academy Concert Band in 1977 as the assistant principal horn, but changed his focus to the piano and soon began performing with the Naval Academy’s big band jazz ensemble, The Next Wave. He continued that focus on jazz by becoming the pianist for The Commodores jazz ensemble of the U.S. Navy Band in Washington, D.C. He was the group’s leader and music director for eight years before moving to the piano soloist position in the Navy Concert Band.
