Gibson Island

One firefighter was injured while fighting a dwelling fire on Gibson Island Monday night. Just after 5:40 Monday afternoon, firefighters responded to a reported house fire in the 600 block of Round Hill Road. Arriving firefighters and Gibson Island Police reported heavy fire from the attached garage of a large two story dwelling. Firefighters requested a second alarm however those additional units were cancelled when the fire was quickly extinguished and contained to the garage area and then declared under control in about 25 minutes.

Members of the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit have determined that the cause of the fire was accidental. There were no occupants home at the time of the fire, and no residents were displaced. One firefighter, a 19-year-old female, was transported by paramedics to Shock Trauma with possibly serious injuries after being struck by a piece of falling debris.
