On February 19, 20, and 21, at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, experience the most “classic” fairytale of all time when the Ballet Theatre of Maryland (BTM), Maryland’s premier professional ballet company, presents: The Sleeping Beauty. Breathtaking beauty, magic, tradition – a dazzling premier of a timeless classic.
When an enchanted kingdom and the fairest princess in the land fall prey to the ultimate mistress of evil, the fate of all rests in the hands of a small band of fairies and one courageous young prince. The spirited group battles an evil witch, her minions, demon princes and a fire breathing dragon in an epic quest to free The Sleeping Beauty and her kingdom. With spectacular action, breathtaking beauty of pageantry and the magical power of love, The Sleeping Beauty has something for everyone.
BTM’s exciting new spin on The Sleeping Beauty promises to amalgamate the best of traditional ballet alongside the exciting elements of fairytale magic to bring this beloved tale to life. Nicole Kelsch, BTM Principal Dancer stars at the spirited Princess Aurora-Rose. The role of the Dark Fairy Carabosse is performed by Alyssa Johnson-Taylor; Alexander Collen performs as the Courageous Prince.
“Since its premier in 1890, The Sleeping Beauty ballet has been presented numerous times, yet no two productions have ever been done exactly the same way. Our version will be set in Medieval England spanning the end of the Peasant’s Revolt to the end of the War of the Roses.”
– BTM Artistic Director Dianna Cuatto
