Annapolis Maritime Museum

Are you looking for a fulfilling and engaging project that is fun and educational? If so, the Annapolis Maritime Museum is perfect for you.  We are a small staff with a big job to do and we need your help to keep the Museum running full steam ahead! Here are a few of our available positions…

Museum Docents: We are looking for outgoing and dedicated individuals to guide and inspire visitors throughout the renovated McNasby’s Oyster Company during operating hours Thursday-Sunday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. All training and materials provided.

Education Volunteers: There is nothing more inspiring than to see kids form a connection with the Chesapeake Bay and its unique maritime heritage. AMM has various educational programs for students ranging from Pre-K to 6th grade preparing these students to become better stewards of the Bay. Education programs typically run during the week day and times may vary.

Garden Club: Do you have a Green Thumb or just know your plants and flowers? If so, the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s Garden Club is looking for you! Bring your favorite gloves and shovels and get ready to beautify! Dates and times may vary.

Anne Arundel County Board of Elections

Volunteers are needed to serve as an election judge for the 2016 Presidential Election, both for the Primary Election, April 26, 2016, and the General Election, November 8, 2016.  All election judges are required to take a 3-hour training class–times TBA and starting in February 2016. Volunteers must be a registered Maryland voter, and at least 17 years old, and also: Must be computer literate, reliable and courteous, neatly dressed, possess good judgement and be able to follow procedures exactly; Must be able to speak, read and write the English language; Must be able to work approximately a 15-hour day. While serving as an election judge, a judge may not be a candidate, campaign manager or treasurer for candidate or political committee nor while on duty as an election judge, may not engage in any partisan or political activity. Positions include Check-In, Provisional, and Voting Judge.  Descriptions of each position and applications can be found on the website at www.aacounty.org/elections. Seeds 4 Success 

Seeds 4 Success (S4S), is a local nonprofit that exists to guide youth in Annapolis public and subsidized housing so that they become healthy, successful adults. We are currently seeking volunteer tutors for our “I Am a Reader” (IAR) program at Eastport Elementary (EES). Supported by our IAR Director, volunteers work one-on-one with first graders who are struggling to read. Volunteers commit to working weekly with the same student each Tuesday from 4pm-5pm. Anne Arundel County Literacy Council 

You can change a life through literacy. Volunteer tutors and assessors are needed for combating adult and out-of-school youth illiteracy; after completing training, you make your own schedule and locations with your assigned student or you can tutor at local detention centers. We have a class size limit of 35. Enrollees MUST attendee both sessions. The Arc Central Chesapeake Region

The Arc advocates for and supports County citizens with developmental disabilities. Volunteers are needed to serve on the board of directors, help with fund raising, assist in the office, and to help with special events. Volunteers, 16 years and older, are also needed as gardening assistants at the Arc’s sensory garden in Annapolis, including plant care, patio maintenance, planting trees/shrubs, etc. and to help with leaf and yard maintenance at 30 homes the Arc manages throughout the County. The Arc is also accepting for recycle, old, unused cell phones at its Annapolis and Arnold offices.  Contact Angie DeMorland at (410) 268-8085 or (410) 269-1883, or e-mail: [email protected]. Hospice of the Chesapeake

From caregivers and office help to videographers and painters, hundreds of volunteers offer a variety of gifts of service to the patients and staff at Hospice of the Chesapeake. The Hospice offers a large number of volunteer opportunities to include: Four wheel drive volunteers needed to help hospice patients during inclement weather; Volunteers willing to help with maintaining our outdoor garden and pergola at our facility; Trained volunteer “Big Buddies” at summer Camp Nabi to assist with children age 6-13 who have lost a loved one; Volunteer music therapists, volunteers with therapy dogs, tuck-in volunteers; and many more opportunities are available. A variety of subjects are covered relating to hospice care of patients and those taking the training are required to attend BOTH sessions being held at 90 Ritchie Highway Pasadena, MD 21122.
