Police make arrest in South County armed robbery

On January 4, 2016 at approximately 2:23 p.m., officers responded to the BWA Convenience Store located at 5488 Southern Maryland Boulevard for a robbery that had occurred earlier.  Upon arrival, officers learned from the owner that a robbery occurred on January 2nd, 2016 at approximately 11:45 a.m., however due to a language barrier, the clerk failed to make a report.   The clerk (while utilizing the owner as an interpreter) stated that a white male, approximately 5’3″ entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. The suspect took an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency and fled the store in an unknown direction.

The ensuing investigation conducted by Robbery Unit detectives led to the development of a potential suspect in this case. On January 7th detectives stopped a vehicle being operated by a Gavino Rodriguez-Guzman. Evidence believed related to the above detailed robbery was observed within the vehicle. Rodriguez-Guzman and the vehicle were detained for further investigation.

After conducting an in depth interview with Rodriguez-Guzman, and executing Search and Seizure warrants on his vehicle and residence, Rodriguez-Guzman was charged with having robbed the BWA Convenience Store.

Rodriguez-Guzman was charged with Armed Robbery, Robbery and Theft. Rodriguez-Guzman is being held in the Anne Arundel County Detention Center in lieu of an $80,000 bond.
