Hammond-Harwood House events for December

Hammond Harwood RearCelebrate Christmas with the Hammond-Harwood House Museum this year….

The Hammond-Harwood House will host holiday house tours on the hour from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 3 through Dec. 31, except Mondays and Christmas Day. This year the museum, decorated by local garden clubs, will maintain the theme of “At home with the Harwood’s: An 1830s Christmas.” Tours are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, $5 for children. The last two tours of the day are Christmas themed and hot apple cider will be served.

Made at the Mansion: An Afternoon of Children’s Holiday Stories & Crafts

Saturday December 5th 2pm

 Children will enjoy a story time amidst the splendor of the room decorated for the season and create holiday decorations, toys, and even learn about a Dutch Christmas tradition. Participants will learn about the Loockerman family, of Dutch ancestry, who lived here in the early 1800’s and their ten children and the excitement that would have ensued during the holiday season. Children will also be able to decorate a holiday sugar cookie treat to eat or take home!

$10 per child. $5 Members Children. Chaperones Free. Program includes the cost of supplies. Members must call to reserve 410-263-4683×12

An Early American Christmas Cooking Program

Saturday, December 12, 2015, 2 pm

Learn about the traditions that have shaped how Americans have celebrated Christmas over time, from the Colonial days, to the age of the new republic, to the Victorian days. Participants will have the chance to taste an original version of a sugarplum, a Twelfth Night cake, a classic Christmas cookie, and for a beverage, spiced wassail!

$25 Non Members $15 Members. Recommended for children 10+

Hammond-Harwood House Traditional Christmas Boxwood Wreath (Pre-sale only)

In the spring of 1825 Mrs. Frances Loockerman decided to create a very special boxwood garden behind her mansion on Maryland Avenue. The “box walk” was planted in the shape of a heart. Around Christmas the family would gather greens from the beloved boxwood and create special arrangements to be enjoyed by all.
