Edgar Allan Poe at the Hammond-Harwood House

Poe promoBehind a locked wooden door and up the stately staircase of the Hammond-Harwood House hang the portraits of the Pinkney family whose connection to the acclaimed poet Edgar Allan Poe will be forever tied through their nephew Edward Coote Pinkney (1802-1828), an early muse for the poet. The Pinkney family lived in the mansion from 1806-1811 and their young nephew Edward Coote Pinkney would have been among the cousins playing the grand gardens and elegant rooms. Edward become an inspiration to Poe who used Pinkney’s poem “A Health” to woe a love interest in 1848.

Guests will enjoy an evening program led by Edgar Allan Poe himself in the Hammond-Harwood House grand ballroom. After the program guests retire to the wine cellar to hear excerpts of Poe’s The Cask of Amontillado and enjoy port by candlelight.  Port is generously provided by Great Frogs Winery of Annapolis.
