Blue Angels in Baltimore for Fleet Week in October 2016

BlueAngelsShow2015-23The Maryland Department of Commerce and partners welcome the U.S. Navy Blue Angels to Maryland to announce their return to Baltimore, October 15-16, 2016.  The air show will take place during the inaugural Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore, a free 6-day festival celebrating the rich naval traditions of the Chesapeake Bay and the contributions of Marylanders to the defense of the nation.

“We are excited to welcome the Blue Angels back to Maryland in 2016 as we host the inaugural Fleet Week and Air Show in Baltimore,” said Governor Larry Hogan. “Symbolizing the pride and professionalism of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, the performances of this elite squadron draws thousands of visitors from around the region to our state.”

The Blue Angels, the Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, will be based at Martin State Airport and performing in Baltimore for the third time during the Star-Spangled Air Show, a two-day event featuring multiple acts flying above the waters of the Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.  The pilots are in Baltimore to conduct logistical assessment of the local area in advance of their performance.

Navy gray hulls will also return to Baltimore’s famed Inner Harbor to celebrate Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore.  In addition to October’s air show, the Blue Angels will perform in Maryland on May 25 and May 27, as part of the United States Naval Academy Air Show and Graduation Flyover, as well as October 29-30 at the Naval Air Station Patuxent River Air Expo.  Like the events Star-Spangled Sailabration in June 2012 and Star-Spangled Spectacular in September 2014, Maryland Fleet Week and Air Show Baltimore is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to Baltimore and the region and contribute to the economy through increased hotel bookings and spending at restaurants, shops and retail outlets.
