Annapolis Opera announces performances for upcoming season

Annapolis Opera Angels & DemonsThe Annapolis Opera has announced their schedule of performances for their upcoming 2015- 2016 season.

Angels & Demons: A Concert

A concert showcasing the many saints and sinners of the operatic repertoire. As in our main-stage production, Faust, human desires can drive the forces of good and evil, and can take many forms. These universal themes are still a part of contemporary life. Performed by several of Annapolis Opera’s favorite singers, and accompanied by Artistic Director, Maestro Ronald Gretz.

Cinderella: An Opera for Children

Set to the energetic and fun-filled music of Gilbert & Sullivan, this classic fairy tale is specially adapted for young audiences. This is the perfect way to share the experience of opera with the children and grandchildren in your life.

Faust

Loosely based on Goethe’s epic drama, Gounod’s Faust was conceived at the height of the French Grand Opera era. This fully-staged production presents timeless human themes of longing for love, the desire for salvation and redemption, and the costs of making a bargain with the devil.

 28th Annual Vocal Competition

For over 27 years, Annapolis Opera’s Vocal Competition has given opera students and young professionals in the Mid-Atlantic region the opportunity to hone their craft by performing for a blue-ribbon panel of judges, comprised of respected music educators and opera performers. It also gives Artistic Director Ronald Gretz a chance to discover new talent for upcoming Annapolis Opera productions. The competition is fierce, with the eight finalists selected from more than 100 outstanding applicants. Prizes total more than $10,000.
