The Anne Arundel Community College Performing Arts Department presents “World Music and Dance Night” on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Building Room 112 on AACC’s Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway.
Students from AACC’s world music ensembles will perform music and dance from West Africa and Brazil. Performing as special guest is the group Axé Capoeira Maryland which specializes in the Brazilian martial art of capoeira.
Organized by Chris Ballengee, Ph.D., assistant professor of music, and instructor of West African music and dance Adjetey Klufio, a former principal dancer of the National Dance Company of Ghana, the performance is one of the steps as the department is taking to develop more diverse offerings in performing arts. Students in the concert are enrolled in Klufio’s West African music and dance courses that are offered for credit and noncredit at the college.
“I’m excited to show our community what the students have accomplished in such a short time this semester,” said Klufio.
Admission is free though donations will be accepted to support AACC’s student-led World Music Club. For more information, call 410-777-7230 or visit www.aacc.edu/music.
