Saturday was the AMEX fueled Small Business Saturday where consumers are encouraged to support the smaller locally owned shops, and in Annapolis…support they did. Droves turned out to stroll Maryland Avenue, Main Street, and the other shopping districts in support of our friends and neighbors.
WRNR was on Main Street when Governor Larry Hogan stopped by to say hello and shop keepers reported a brisk morning despite the constriction that loomed in Ego Alley. The initiative was coordinated locally by the new Annapolis Partnership which is a public-private partnership between the City of Annapolis and the business community. Some of the lead sponsors included Sheehy Lexus of Annapolis, Zachary’s Jewelers, and Homestead Gardens.
On Sunday evening, the City Dock area was filled with song, dancing and light as the City lit the official tree to kick off the holidays. As always, Zachary’s Jewelers treated passersby to mini-performances of the Nutcracker performed by the Chesapeake Ballet Company. Musical entertainment was provided by the All Children’s Chorus of Annapolis, The Bates Middle School Chorus, and the Talent Machine who performed pieces of their annual performance. By the time that Santa arrived and the tree was lit, everyone was in the holiday spirit.
The holiday events continue this Thursday with the first Midnight Madness. The second Midnight Madness is on December 10, followed by Eleventh Hour on December 17th. Other area events include the Eastport Yacht Club Lights parade on the 12th, the Santa Speedo Run on the 19th and a Chocolate Festival on the 6th!
