AA Department of AgingThe Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities will be partnering with the Johns Hopkins Parkinson’s Disease and Movements Disorders Center to hold a Parkinson’s Disease Support Group.  The kick-off meeting will be held on Friday, November 20th, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the South County Senior Activity Center at 27 Stepney Lane, Edgewater, Maryland.  Meetings will be held the fourth Friday of every month except for November and December.  The meetings will be held every third Friday due to the holidays.

Parkinson’s disease is a chronic and progressive movement disorder that can worsen over time.  Some of the symptoms can be tremors of the face, hands, arms, or legs, stiffness, slowness of movement, or impaired balance and coordination.  Education and support that participants receive at community meetings or support groups can enhance the quality of life, lower stress, and may even boost immune systems.

Bailey Vernon, Health Educator for the Parkinson’s Disease & Movement Disorders Center at Johns Hopkins stated, “We are excited to start a support group in south Anne Arundel County to help support those living with Parkinson’s disease and their friends and families.”

All meetings are free to attend.  Those with Parkinson’s disease and their families are invited to attend.  For more information on this support group, contact Jane Moore, [email protected] or at 410-271-8838, or Bailey Vernon, [email protected] or at 410-616-2811.  For anyone needing accommodations or more information, please contact the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, call 410-222-4257 or visit the website at www.aacounty.org/aging.   TTY users, please call via Maryland Relay 7-1-1.
