Caritas Society celebrates life of artist Marc Chagall

StJohnsCollegeThe Caritas Society of St. John’s College presents the fundraiser “A Movie and an Author,” featuring a short film screening and a book signing in celebration of renowned French artist Marc Chagall. The event will be held on Sunday, November 8 at 3 p.m. in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium and Lobby at St. John’s College. 

The featured movie, “Chagall,” is a 1964 Academy Award winning documentary about the artist and is voiced by actor Vincent Price. Author Stanley Meisler will discuss and sign copies of his recent book “Shocking Paris: Soutine, Chagall, and the Outsiders of Montparnasse,” which tells the story of the School of Paris, a group of Russian Jewish artists in the 1920s and 30s who became a fixture on the Paris art scene. The Mitchell Gallery exhibition “Chagall: The Early Etchings from the 1920s” will also be on view and continue through December 17.

Doors open at 2 p.m. and a wine reception will follow the presentations. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Proceeds benefit Caritas Society grants for St. John’s College students in need. Tickets for a raffle basket of wine and gift certificates to area cultural events can also be purchased during the event.
