On Sunday, August 7, 2011 at approximately 2:22 a.m., Anne Arundel County Police Western District officers responded to the 2000 block of Lower Court , Crofton, Maryland for a shots fired complaint. Upon arrival officers learned through investigation a party was held in the area and during the party shots were fired. While doing a search for any victims or witnesses, officers located an apparent crime scene in the 1800 block of Judicial Way, Crofton, Maryland indicating an individual had received an injury.
While officers were on scene, a Northern District officer had been dispatched to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center at approximately 2:38 a.m. on an unrelated 911 call. Upon arrival paramedics instructed the officer that a gunshot victim had just been driven to the hospital by three individuals. The officer located the victim, identified as Teyon Decarlos Jones a twenty-two year old black male from the 8000 block of Phirne Road, Glen Burnie, Maryland suffering from an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the upper body. Mr. Jones was later transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Due to his injuries, Mr. Jones quality of life had been adversely affected.
Western District Detectives along with technicians from the Evidence Collection Unit and Homicide Unit responded to the scene searching the area for any items of evidentiary value in regards to the shooting of Teyon Jones. Several witnesses were located and evidence collected in regards to this shooting investigation. The individuals who transported the victim were also interviewed. Western District Detectives continually pursued leads as they came in over the course of time on this investigation.
UPDATE
On Saturday, November 21, 2015, while under medical care, Teyon Jones was pronounced deceased at 8:20 p.m. The body of Mr. Jones was then transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner located in Baltimore Maryland so an autopsy could determine the exact cause and manner of death. On Sunday, November 22, 2015, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of Teyon Jones death as complications from the gunshot wound received on August 7, 2011 with the manner being homicide.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department is offering up to a ten thousand dollar ($10,000.00) reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the shooting that ultimately led to Teyon Jones’ death. Due to the passage of time, homicide detectives are aware witnesses might be more likely to discuss the event than they were five years ago. Relationships change; witnesses have moved and may be more comfortable with assisting with the investigation.
