Volunteers needed for 2015 tax season VITA program

[do action=”fringe”/]

Volunteers are needed to assist with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) to help seniors and low-income adults with their 2015 tax returns.

Volunteers will be trained by the Internal Revenue Service and the Maryland Comptroller’s Office. They help only with simple income tax returns, which will be taxesfiled electronically. Volunteers do not do tax returns involving partnerships or corporations, self-employed persons, or rental properties.

Volunteers are not required to have a financial background in order to help with the tax returns, but CPAs, attorneys, bookkeepers and people with financial training are encouraged to volunteer. Volunteers will be stationed at one of the county’s seven senior activity centers and will be available by appointment between February 1, 2015, and April 8, 2015.

If you are interested in being a VITA volunteer, please contact Isaac Jones at 410-222-0014 for more details.  For more information about the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities, call 410-222-4257 or visit the website at www.aacounty.org/aging.   TTY users, please call via Maryland Relay 7-1-1.
