Introducing Ronny Smith, a smooth jazz guitarist and veteran of the Baltimore jazz scene. Ronny considers his early influences to have been George Benson, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass. One can hear touches of each of those greats in his CDs, “Long Time Comin”, “Just Grooving”, “Simply Stated”, “Got Groove” and, “Laid Back”, along with Ronny’s own strong musical personality.

As a guitarist, he has shared the stage with such artists as the Marvelettes, jazz drumming legend Bobby Durham, and vocalist Melba Moore. He has recorded with some of the top session musicians of the Nashville and California scene, including John Hammond (Player A), Gary Lunn (Peter Cetera), Pat Coil (Michael McDonald), Craig Nelson (Ben Tankard), and Dan Needham (Euge Groove), Scott Martin (Quincy Jones) Andy Martin (Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat band), Stan Martin (Quincy Jones).

“Can’t Stop Now” is Ronny’s sixth release as a solo artist, and features the fantastic singles, “Slim Pickin” and, “City Groove”.  City Groove, quickly became #1 on Billboards’ BDS New & Active SMOOTH JAZZ chart listing. Shortly thereafter, rose to become #25 on Billboards’ BDS radio SMOOTH JAZZ NATIONAL AIRPLAY top 30 charts. He maintained stable airplay with both released singles, “City Groove”, and “Slim Pickin”.

Our new Town Hall Tuesday forum aims to bring informative and inspiring guest speakers who work on behalf of this community through their work as an artist, educator or community leader. Come experience the new Chesapeake Arts Center.

About Rob Levit: Rob Levit, an acclaimed musician and artist, has created award-winning innovative “Life-Skills Through The Arts” programs for hundreds of at-risk youth and adults. He is currently Executive Director of Creating Communities and the first Artist-In-Residence at Hospice of the Chesapeake, where he created and infused healing activites for the well-being of staff, families and patients.

Rob is a 2013 Innovator of the Year from the Maryland Daily Record, 2012 Mentor of the Year for Anne Arundel County, 2011 recipient of the Martin Luther King Peacemaker Award, 2010 Rotary Club Service Above Self Award and was recently a Top 5 national finalist for the Energizer Keep Going Hall of Fame for community service.

In 2006,  he was a Fellow at UCLA’s Center for Intercultural Performance working and collaborating with artist from around the world. Levit has also completed an acclaimed CD, Songs of Healing, for Hospice of the Chesapeake designed to give comfort to patients, workers and family in hospice care and it has since been distributed to over 1500 people.

The Navy Band Sea Chanters is the U.S. Navy’s official chorus. The ensemble performs a variety of music ranging from traditional choral music, including sea chanteys and patriotic fare, to opera, Broadway, and contemporary music. The Sea Chanters chorus is frequently found at the center of our most important national events. At home in Washington, they perform for the president, vice president and numerous congressional, military and foreign dignitaries.
