Memphis and Yeardley[3][2]Later this week, local teen Yeardley Pendleton will achieve a goal that is years in the making… to compete in one of the most prestigious equestrian sporting events in North America – The Washington International Horse Show (WIHS). Earlier this week, Yeardley received an invitation congratulating her for qualifying to compete in the WIHS Children’s Jumper Championship that has $10,000 in prize money up for grabs.

For the past 11 years, Yeardley has dedicated herself to the equestrian sport riding/training 5-6 days a week, year round. This competition is not something that can be entered by any rider. The horse/rider combination must compete in the divisions of completions that are sponsored by WIHS. These types of classes are called Classics. There are rules and stipulations that have to be followed in order to be able to enter the Classic completion. During the show season, the horse/rider combination accumulates points for the winning placings and at the end of the season the points are tallied and only the top 30 riders (out of hundreds from all over the country) qualify for the final event at the Washington International Horse Show.

In 2014, Yeardley began training with Kim Williams of Willow Wood Farm in Woodbine, MD. Yeardley will ride Magnanimo (aka Memphis). Memphis is a 16.2 hand, gelding, Dutch Warmblood Jumper and is owned by Rolling Acres Show Stables LLC.

The Washington International Horse Show is a championship event with approximately 600 horses and riders competing for more than $480,000 in prize money and championship titles. The show will be held at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, October 20-25, 2015.

Yeardley will attend the University of Kentucky next fall and will major in Equine Science and Management.
