Don QuinnDon Quinn was elected to the Republican Central Committee of Anne Arundel County in 2014 and was the Republican candidate for State Senate in District 30 for the 2014 general election. He tendered his official resignation from the Central Committee on Oct. 20, 2015 and officially switched his party affiliation to Democrat.

Here is his official statement:

“I want to thank everyone who voted for me in 2014. I am the same person who walked over 3,000 miles and knocked on over 20,000 doors to earn your votes. I was blessed with an outpouring of support by moderates in both parties and people who understood the need for a new voice. Sadly, my days on the Central Committee have shown that the party leadership does not share my vision for how to achieve a better Maryland and a stronger, more inclusive America.

“As such, I am leaving the Republican Party because I believe America’s best days did not die with our founding fathers but were born with our children. I believe in the unrivaled potential of America. Achieving this potential requires looking to the future and laying the foundations for a more inclusive society, where all our citizens have equal rights. I am a progressive and believe that for us to reach our potential, we must continuously invest in our future, tackling challenges like education and climate change while being fiscally responsible and creating jobs for our citizens. This cannot be done if we continue to cling to old ideology and regressive ways of thinking. We must be willing to tackle today’s challenges and prepare for our future – something I believe we can do together.

“I have found that this is a vision shared by people of all political persuasions but is actually championed by the leadership of the Democratic Party. I am looking to race in the future, where I will be championing issues like voting rights, equal protections and opportunity for all citizens, women’s rights, and improving our education system.
