Hospice seeking volunteers

With its new Inpatient Care Center scheduled to open in November in Pasadena, along with a growing need for hospice care in our community, Hospice of the Chesapeake has numerous volunteer opportunities available in Anne Arundel and Prince George’s Counties.Hospice

Volunteers play a vital role on the hospice team by visiting patients, supporting caregivers, serving as counselors at grief retreats, organizing fundraisers or assisting in our offices or inpatient care centers. Become a hospice volunteer if you are age 18 or older and willing to complete volunteer training. Opportunities also exist for high school students and internships also are available.

Areas of need include:

·         Patient Care: Provide companionship and a supportive presence for our patients and respite for caregivers. They offer a listening ear, open mind and loving heart to those in our care.

·         Vigil Volunteers: Available upon request to support patients and families during the final days and hours of life. Additional training provided.

·         Inpatient Care Support: Assist with preparing meals, housekeeping, yard work and other duties as needed.

·         Grief Support: Provide a caring presence either by phone or in person to support grieving individuals.

·         Military: Volunteers with a military background to visit patients who are veterans. Also needed are veterans or active military to join our We Honor Veterans Committee, which supports veteran initiatives within the company and community, including our Honor Salutes Program.

·         Administrative Volunteers: Provide office and clerical support in our Largo office as well as at our office and Inpatient Care Center in Pasadena.

·         Licensed Cosmetologists: Provide haircuts and other grooming to our patients in their homes.

·         Community Outreach: Manage informational displays at community events or assist with speaking engagements to the hospice mission.

·         Healing Arts: Licensed Massage Therapists, Aromatherapy, Music, Healing Touch, and Reiki/healing touch work as well as dog owners to share their pet with patients through Pet Therapy, musicians, artists, etc. In most cases, specific training can be provided.
