Hospice names new CEO and President

HospiceThe Board of Directors of Hospice of the Chesapeake announced that Ben Marcantonio has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit organization effective September 24, 2015.  “We have chosen Ben Marcantonio to lead Hospice of the Chesapeake because of his effective and collaborative leadership skills, his proven ability to navigate the rapidly changing healthcare environment, and his strong vision for the future of the organization,” said Richard M. Lerner, Chairman of the Board of Directors.  “Ben has served with distinction as our Interim CEO since January 2015 and during this time has proven that he is up to the task and ready to assume the helm of Hospice of the Chesapeake on a permanent basis.”

Marcantonio relocated to Maryland in April 2013 from San Diego, California to become Hospice of the Chesapeake’s Chief Operating Officer.  He has 25 years of leadership experience in educational, healthcare and social service settings.  Before joining Hospice of the Chesapeake, he served as Chief Administrative Officer at San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine.  Marcantonio has extensive experience working with multidisciplinary clinical and management teams in a variety of educational and clinical settings.  He holds a Master’s of Science in Counseling from San Diego State University, a Master’s of Education in Administrative Leadership from the University of San Diego, and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Philosophy from the Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.

“I am honored to continue to serve Hospice of the Chesapeake in this new role and to play a part in shaping the future of healthcare for residents of our region,” said Marcantonio.  “I embrace the opportunity to strengthen current partnerships and create new alliances that will benefit our patients and their families.”

Hospice of the Chesapeake served more than 5,000 individuals over the last twelve months through its many programs and services, including hospice and palliative care as well as grief support.  Marcantonio will lead all facets of the organization including the new state-of-the-art 14-bed Inpatient Care Center on the John & Cathy Belcher Campus in Pasadena, which is slated to open in November 2015.
