Goshen Farm Annual Fall Open House this weekend

goshenfarmEnjoy a day dedicated to family fun.  Walk the 11-point self-guided trail, tour the 18th Century Farm House and learn the fascinating history of Goshen Farm, tour the organic Sharing Garden and high tunnel used to grow winter crops for local food banks, visit the Soil Health Pit for an informative discussion lead by the Assistant State Soil Scientist, meet the members and see the progress, visit the Henson-Hall Slave Garden created by local volunteers to recognize the 12 slaves who toiled at Goshen Farm and walk through the Goshen Farm Orchard recently planted in conjunction with the Stream Restoration Grant Project of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools.  Participate in the colonial era children’s games and activities! 

The musical guest will be local artist Dirk Schwenk.  An a historic re-enactment of a day in the life of Margaret Stinchcomb Tydings who lived at Goshen Farm in 1860’s  will be presented.

At the end of the Open House commencing at 3:30, the Society will dedicate the Memorial Grove, also planted in conjunction with the Stream Restoration Grant Project.  The 25 white oak grove will honor deceased individuals who have made significant contributions to the preservation of Goshen Farm.  The first tree will honor the memory of Samuel Gallagher, former President of the Cape St. Claire Improvement Association and one of the earliest supporters of Goshen Farm.

Refreshments will be available for purchase including hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, chips, cookies, and beverages.
