Carousel coming to Maryland Hall next weekend

Jason_buckwalter_Sept2015Live Arts Maryland presents Broadway in Annapolis: “Carousel,” Friday, October 9 (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday, October 10 (8 p.m.) at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts.  With a dream cast of audience favorites, the Annapolis Chorale and Annapolis Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Music Director J. Ernest Green, this Tony Award-winning classic has it all.

As with all Live Arts Maryland’s Broadway in Annapolis musicals, Mr. Green’s emphasis is the music.  Performing works by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein is a particular pleasure.

“It’s obvious to me why Rodgers and Hammerstein said Carousel was their favorite  collaboration. The orchestration is lush and beautiful and the music frames an incredibly moving and powerful story about love and redemption.   I can’t wait to hear this cast perform it,” he says. “This is a rare chance to experience one of Broadway’s musicals with a full orchestra.”

“Carousel” features such familiar songs as “The Carousel Waltz,” “If I Loved You” “June is Bustin’ Out All Over” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”  Joining Live Arts Maryland for this production are audience favorites Jason Buckwalter (Billy Bigelow) and Kimberly Christie (Carrie Pipperidge) along with J Austin Bitner (Enoch Snow) and Jessica Satava as Julie Jordan.  These versatile local performers have appeared in past productions and concerts with Live Arts Maryland.

The Casual Friday performance at 7:30 p.m. will be followed by a Q&A session with the cast and Mr. Green.  It is a perfect opportunity for students and young performers to talk with professional, working musicians.  The Student Rush free ticket program is active for this concert.  Students over 18 with valid IDs may visit the box office a half-hour before curtain to receive a free ticket.  Students under 18 do not need a valid ID.

Additional information on the show can be found at www.liveartsmaryland.org. Tickets for all three performances are available at the Maryland Hall Box Office by calling 410-280-5640 or online at www.marylandhall.org.
