Yumkas, Vidmar & Sweeney, LLC of Columbia announces that Thomas J. “TJ” Mulrenin from Mulrenin & Associates in Annapolis has joined the firm effective Oct. 1.

With a total of 10 attorneys, the newly expanded and renamed firm — Yumkas, Vidmar, Sweeney & Mulrenin — is now poised to offer clients a fuller set of serviMulrenin,-TJ-9673ces ranging from commercial real estate to complex business transactions and disputes, including bankruptcy. The firm will be one of the area’s largest law firms to have a combined presence in both Annapolis and Columbia.

As founder and managing member of Mulrenin & Associates, LLC, Mulrenin has more than 37 years of experience in the field of real estate development. He began his legal career in 1980 as in-house counsel for Safeway Stores, Inc., negotiating, documenting and overseeing all Safeway real estate transactions in the eastern half of the United States. From 1986 through 1992, he served as General Counsel and Development Project Manager for Pence Friedel Developers, Inc., a national shopping center developer.

In 1992, he founded Mulrenin & Associates, which is well known as a transactional law firm with a focus on commercial real estate and business. The firm represents business owners, real estate investors, developers, landlords, tenants, lenders and franchisees in structuring and implementing commercial transactions.

Mulrenin & Associates’ Carrie Fazzolari will also be joining the new firm as an associate. Fazzolari has extensive experience as counsel to the telecom industry, with a strong focus on cell tower-related transactions.

Lawrence Yumkas, managing member of Yumkas, Vidmar & Sweeney, LLC, says he has worked with Mulrenin for a long time and the firm is excited to have both Mulrenin and Fazzolari on board.

“We could not be more excited to have TJ and Carrie joining us. In our years as an Annapolis- and Columbia-based practice, we have had the pleasure of getting to know, working with and even sharing space with TJ.  He is a first rate attorney, human being and friend. His sophisticated transactional practice is a perfect fit for us,” Yumkas said. He also commented on how the new firm is well-positioned to provide an even greater variety of services for current and future clients.

“We are truly in business for businesses and business owners and we now have a much more complete way to service our discerning clients,” said Yumkas, who founded Yumkas, Vidmar & Sweeney in 2009 with James A. Vidmar and Paul Sweeney.

While Mulrenin and Fazzolari will continue to be based in the firm’s Annapolis office, both expect to spend weekly time in Columbia.

A longtime Annapolis resident, Mulrenin is active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Anne Arundel Medical Center Foundation. He says he’s excited about the opportunities the new firm will bring by combining their areas of expertise.

“I am very pleased to bring our transactional practice to join the widely respected attorneys at Yumkas, Vidmar & Sweeney, LLC,” he said. “We share a passion for the ethical practice of law at a high level, mentoring young professionals and community service. It promises to be a very synergistic union.”

Effective Oct. 1, the firm will have 10 attorneys licensed in Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia and New York. Well known as a premier insolvency and commercial litigation and transactions practice, Yumkas, Vidmar, Sweeney & Mulrenin will offer legal and consulting services for real estate and business transactions, federal energy financing, dispute resolution, commercial and consumer bankruptcy and telecommunications related real estate law.

The firm’s office locations are 10211 Wincopin Circle, Suite 500 in Columbia and 1919 West Street, Suite 200 in Annapolis. For more information, call 410-571-2780 or visit http://www.yvslaw.com.
