On September 23, 2015 at approximately 12:40 pm, officers were called to the parking lot of the Glen Burnie Courthouse for the complaint of child neglect. Upon arrival they met with a citizen and a court bailiff. The citizen stated that while walking through the parking lot, they observed a small child sleeping in the back seat of a parked vehicle. The engine was off and the window was partially open. The citizen attempted to wake the child, but when the child would not wake up, the citizen ran into the court house and summonsed a court bailiff. The bailiff was able to unlock the vehicle by placing his arm inside a partially open window and remove the child.

While paramedics checked the child’s health, the mother, identified as Ashley Myers responded back to the vehicle. Myers stated that she had gone into the court house to file some paperwork and did not want to wake the sleeping child. Officers reviewed security surveillance video that showed that the child was left unattended inside the vehicle for approximately 30 minutes. Myers was arrested and charged with confined/unattended child and reckless endangerment. A family member responded and took custody of the child. The case has been forwarded to Department of Social Services.
