Baysox win pennant!

[do action=”fringe”/]

bysoxpennantThe Bowie Baysox are the Western Division Champions and will play for a first time in franchise history in the upcoming Eastern league Championship Series. The Baysox clinched a spot in the finals with a 3-0 win in Game Four over Altoona to win the series three game to one.

The Baysox got off to a resounding start in what would end up a historic night. After starter David Hess worked a 1-2-3 first inning, Mike Yastrzemski homered to right-center field to grab the lead. Two batters later, Quincy Latimore hit his third home run of the series, a towering drive to left field and the lead was 2-0.

Bowie’s power continued in the second inning. Garabez Rosa laid into a breaking ball driving a solo home run on a line to left field to put Bowie atop 3-0. From then on it was time for starter David Hess to shine.

Hess was fantastic, allowing just one hit in seven shutout innings of baseball to keep the three run lead intact.

Altoona loaded the bases in the eighth inning with one down, but Baysox closer Andrew Triggs struck out consecutive batters with his sweeping slider to end the threat. In the ninth inning, after a double play ball, Triggs hit Erich Weiss with a two-strike breaking ball.

Late in the count against Jacob Stallings, he got a groundball to third base. Drew Dosch fielded and threw to first and Trey Mancini dug out the throw to clinch the victory. Bowie had won their first division crown in the 23-year history of the franchise.

The Baysox next play against the winner of the East on Tuesday, September 15th on the road in Game One of the Eastern League Championship Series.
