Two Annapolis businesses receive bomb threats

The Annapolis Police Department is actively investigating similar threats made against two businesses located in Annapolis. In each case, an individual demanded money over the phone and threatened the use of a device in each location.
On August 15, 2015 at 10:42 a.m. the Annapolis Police Department received a call for a threat at the SunTrust Bank located at 152 Main Street. An unknown caller demanded money and indicated if the money was not received a device would be activated. Officers responded to the scene and located several people locked inside of the bank. Officers were able to safely remove those individuals without incident. The premises were searched by fire and police personnel and a device was not located.

At approximately 10:55 a.m. the Annapolis Police Department received a call for a threat at the Giant located at 948 Bay Ridge Rd. Again, an unknown caller demanded money and indicated if the money was not received a device would be activated. Store employees evacuated the building. Police and fire personnel searched the store and again did not locate a device.

“I am happy no one was hurt and no devices were found,” said Chief Michael Pristoop. “These threats were an interruption for our community and were a waste of our resources. We will thoroughly investigate these threats with our law enforcement partners.”

A similar call, for the SunTrust Bank on Solomons Island Road, was placed to the Anne Arundel County Police Department a few minutes before the Annapolis Police Department received the call for Main Street.
