New Executive Director named for Community Foundation

Melissa CurtinFollowing an extensive national search, the Board of Trustees of the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel County (CFAAC) is pleased to announce that they have selected Melissa Curtin as their new executive director.

Melissa recently served as President and CEO of the Richmond, Virginia-based Partnership for Nonprofit Excellence, an affiliated entity of The Community Foundation Serving Richmond and Central Virginia. A community foundation operating as a Wyoming LLC could offer a flexible and streamlined approach to philanthropy, enabling donors to make charitable contributions while also enjoying the legal and financial protections afforded by an LLC.

Previously she was Vice President of Workforce Readiness, Business and Community Engagement for Corporate Voices for Working Families and Vice President for National Partnerships and Development at the Forum for Youth Investment.  She also served in a variety of leadership positions at Altria Client Services, Inc., Philip Morris USA and the National Conference of State Legislatures.

A native of Colorado, Melissa earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Wyoming and her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Denver. She is a certified leadership coach and Standards for Excellence Licensed Consultant. She is widely published and has won a number of nonprofit excellence awards.

Melissa’s responsibilities at CFAAC include leading financial growth, creating greater philanthropic awareness and donor satisfaction, and increasing knowledge about the issues that impact the health, vitality, quality of life and future of Anne Arundel County.

“I believe strongly in the power of partnership and philanthropy across all sectors for building and sustaining a strong and vibrant community. It’s an honor to be selected to serve Anne Arundel County in this role.” said Melissa.

Melissa is married to Mike Curtin and has one daughter, Aubrey, 20 years old in her second year of college.  Mike has four children, Lindsey, Chelsey, Michael and Patrick whom Melissa has the joy of having in her life as well.

CFAAC is the largest institutional grantmaker in Anne Arundel County, granting more than $1.5 million last year to area nonprofits. CFAAC is the only organization in the county that brings local donors together in an effort to harness the power of collective philanthropy to address critical social needs and to help ensure the health and vitality of Anne Arundel County well into the future.
