Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MD MEP), a resource for growing and advancing manufacturing in the State of Maryland, held its Make it in Maryland Cheers to Gears event at the Holmatro facility on July 21st.

“Governor Hogan sent a strong message of support to the Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MD MEP) when he selected Business Ombudsman Roger Campos to attend our Cheers to Gears event. Roger embraced the true spirit of MD MEP,” offered John Freeburger, Vice President Manufacturing for Holmatro. “It was a joy witnessing him network with local manufacturers across 40 businesses, displaying an interest in advancing manufacturing in the state of MD and actively participating in the event activities. We were honored to have him as our guest.”

The event featured a plant tour, followed by a networking reception serving local cuisine from Mission BBQ and sampling some of the Make it in Maryland beverage manufacturers – Raven Beer, Diamondback Beer Co., and Lyon Distilling. In addition, attendees put Holmatro’s latest and greatest tools to the test as they each had a turn in strategically cutting apart a vehicle under the direction of the Holmatro safety training crew.

“Maryland’s diverse manufacturing community produces everything from world-renowned spices and sugars to life-saving equipment and pharmaceuticals right here in our state,” said Roger A. Campos, the Governor’s Business Ombudsman. “Programs like Cheers to Gears engage, inform and connect Maryland manufacturers and help companies access new markets. Governor Hogan and I fully support Cheers to Gears and other initiatives that support and showcase our state’s manufacturing sector and reinforce the message that Maryland is an ideal location to start, expand and thrive in today’s global economy.”

The goal of the event is to provide invested companies with an opportunity to experience new facilities, network with and learn more about their Make it in Maryland counterparts. MD MEP’s Make it in Maryland program is Maryland’s first and only program dedicated to manufacturers within the State to showcase companies, demonstrate the value of manufacturing and highlight successes within Maryland. \
