Baysox magic continues with Corban Joseph walk-off win

BaysoxDavid Freitas tied the game with a solo home run in the ninth inning and Corban Joseph won it with a bases loaded walk-off single to secure a 4-3 comeback victory over Trenton Tuesday. The win was the Baysox 10th in 12 games against Trenton this season.

The Baysox led 2-0 after the second inning, but surrendered three unanswered runs to the Thunder in the sixth and seventh innings to fall behind late. Three of the first five runs scored in the game were unearned because of costly errors committed by each team.

The Baysox took the lead against Trenton starter Jaron Long with help from a Thunder mistake in the bottom of the second inning. Mike Yastrzemski reached on a force out at second base and Garabez Rosa then reached on a fielding error by shortstop Tyler Wade that would have ended the inning. Drew Dosch followed with a triple to right field that plated two runs and gave Bowie a 2-0 lead.

Trenton got on the board in the top of the sixth inning against Baysox starter Joe Gunkel. Cito Culver hit a lead-off single to right field, stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch. He then scored on a Tony Renda groundout to make the score 2-1.

The Thunder came back to take the lead in the seventh inning. Tyler Wade reached on a force out at second base for the second out of the inning before the Baysox ran into some trouble. Danny Oh brought Wade home on a triple to right field and he came around to score on the play after a Brandon Snyder fielding error to give Trenton a 3-2 lead.

The Baysox rallied to win the game in the bottom of the ninth inning against Trenton reliever Mark Montgomery. Freitas tied the game with a solo home run to center field to lead-off the inning. With one out, Rosa singled to left field, Dosch walked and Davis singled to left field to load the bases. Joseph then played the hero as he singled to center field to bring home the winning run in a 4-3 victory.

Gunkel pitched seven innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out two and walking one in a no decision. Reliever Pat McCoy picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out three to finish the game.
