Volunteer opportunities abound in Anne Arundel

 Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference & Visitor’s Bureau

The mission of the Bureau is to plan, produce and promote programs designed to increase the volume of leisure and business visitors to the area while preserving the community and managing the travel and tourism industry. Volunteers, age 21 and up, are needed at the 26 West St. Visitor Center and City Dock Information Booth to provide visitors with knowledgeable, appropriate, and current information to assist them in having the best possible experience. Our friendly volunteers provide visitors with materials, insights, and the lay of the land they need to make the best use of their time with us. Completion of a training program and a 3-month provisional period is required of new volunteers; participation in ongoing training and continuing education is required for all volunteers along with a commitment to serve a four-hour shift at least three times per month. Shifts typically begin at 9:00 a.m. & 1:00 p.m. We especially need weekend volunteers. Annapolis & Anne Arundel County Scholarship Trust
The Trust’s mission is to work with the community to provide the inspiration, mentoring and financial support for first-generation students so they can complete a higher education. The Annapolis & Anne Arundel Scholarship Trust is currently in need of skilled professionals who are interested in volunteering to support our re-launch and extend our services.  We are looking for marketing, communications or fundraising expertise and ability to develop and implement a program that will raise funds for our scholarships, programs and operations. Annapolis Community Boating
Annapolis Community Boating is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to creating safe, fun and educational on-the-water opportunities for the entire community. ACB serves as an umbrella group identifying and coalescing existing resources within the community to create meaningful experiences that promote recreation, conservation and a closer relationship with the Chesapeake Bay and her surrounding waters. There are opportunities in office work, marketing work, boat maintenance, facility maintenance, and helping to facilitate boating opportunities. Annapolis Opera

Volunteers, ages 16 and older, are needed to help in a variety of ways including: social fundraisers or our annual vocal competition; with clerical projects, like mailings and office tasks; providing housing for one of our performers; assisting with transporting singers to and from the airport or train station; serving refreshmentst out post-performance receptions, and more. Ballet Theatre of Maryland

This full-time professional ballet company and training academy performs at the Maryland Hall for Creative Arts four times each year in Annapolis and also performs full-length, mini-performances, and lecture/demonstrations throughout Maryland locations. Its School of Classic and Contemporary Dance provides professional training to children from age two and up, and including adults; from beginners through professionals. Big Brothers and Sisters of the Greater Chesapeake

Want an excuse to be a kid again?  Play catch?  Fly kites? Most volunteers start because they want to give back and help a child.  Soon, they discover being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the best experiences of their life! As a Big, you are simply a friend.  We ensure your experience fits your lifestyle, and we have something for everyone.  Busy people of all ages can get involved.  You can choose the program that works best for you.

Volunteers spend time with a child (age 7-15) a few times per month, a few hours each time, over the course of one year.  Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a monthly list of free or low-cost activities to give you ideas and are with you every step of the way. Boy Scouts, Troop 323

Troop 323 of Annapolis, Maryland chartered in November of last year is in need of adult volunteers to help nurture the start-up of this brand new troop.  Volunteers must be over the age of 18, can be male or female, and must be able to pass a background check.  All registered adults must also complete required training to include Youth Protection training.  Meetings are held from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays in the annex of the First Baptist Church of Annapolis. Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services, Inc.

The mission of Laurel Advocacy and Referral Services, Inc. (LARS) is to assist individuals in crisis by providing the tools, resources, and skills needed to empower them with confidence and a sense of competence. LARS helps people to solve problems and to become self-sufficient so that stability can be returned to their lives. LARS serves thousands of individuals and/or families each year. Volunteers are needed to help with pantry stocking and delivery, as office assistance, with fundraising including coordinating walks or as a walk sponsor. Men of Courage International, Inc.

This Annapolis-based nonprofit is dedicated to helping men fulfill their duties as fathers, husbands, and community leaders around the world by providing a safe place for men to talk about how to reach their goal of achieving authentic manhood. Its “Strong Dads” Program partners with local schools to educate and support fathers (grandfathers, uncles, male guardians) in the role they play at schools, in their homes, and in the community at large. The organization provides inspiration and motivation for the fathers by holding events featuring an inspirational speaker, Q&A, live entertainment, and activities that give them the tools they need to continue to grow in their roles as men. Volunteers are needed to set up and take down of equipment for events, and be greeters and register people at such events. Also needed are volunteers to direct activities for children and serve as instructors for families at such events. United Way of Central Maryland, “Stone Soup” Volunteer Event, July 25, 2015

Bring your whole family and join us to assemble bagged lunches for the guests of The Lighthouse Shelter at 10 Hudson St., Annapolis, MD 21401 between 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. on Sat., July 25, 2015. Kids and adults of all ages can join the fun! We ask for each family member participating in the event to bring some items from our grocery list.
