Schooner Woodwind schedules special sailings for fall season

Woodwind 07-03-09 (18)It seems like it was yesterday when the Schooner Woodwind was starting their season. But now they are looking at wrapping it up in a few short months and have scheduled many unique and special sailings. Experience Wednesday night racing, light house tours, brunch aboard, music aboard, and a schooner race.

Sept 2:  The Last of the Season Wednesday Night Sailboat Racing Cruise aboard the 74-foot Schooners Woodwind & Woodwind II: Be part of the action every Wednesday night as the two wooden schooners, Woodwind & Woodwind II, compete in Annapolis’ summer racing series. Help the crew or sit back and watch 130 racing sailboats!

Cruises depart from the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel.  5:30pm-7:30pm.

Tickets are $44/adult, $27/child under 12 yrs. and include a soft drink and snack. Beer and wine are available for purchase.

Sept 3:  Sailing Cruise with live music aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind:  Enjoy music performed by The Roadside during a two hour sunset cruise aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind. Proud to be returning aboard the Schooner Woodwind for our third Summer, The Roadside is Robert Nolan on guitar and Randy Lusk on percussion/harmonicas. Their vocal harmonies are explosive, and they bring over 40-years of experience together with their unique blend of music from the early days of the blues to contemporary music for your enjoyment!

Sept 10:  Sailing Cruise with live music aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind:  Enjoy music performed by The Eastport Oyster Boys during a two hour sunset cruise aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind.

Recognized as the City of Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay’s Musical Goodwill Ambassadors The Eastport Oyster Boys love to share their musical celebration of life on the shores of the Chesapeake and its scenic rivers with audiences of all ages. For two decades they have educated, amused and delighted thousands with their wit, wisdom and special message of stewardship and appreciation for the Bay and its unique maritime culture and history. Anyone who loves being on or near the water will find they have a lot in common with these guys, whose simple philosophy is wrapped up in the three basic necessities of life “a good hat, a good dog and a good boat!”

Sept 13: Old Westminster Winery Dinner Cruise: Captain Jen fell in love with this winery’s location, wine and people that work at Old Westminster Winery at their grand opening in 2013. The proprietors, the Baker family, are raising a reputation for crafting wines of intrigue. The property is situated on a rocky plot of ground just south of historic Westminster, MD, where patrons enjoy the ambiance of the vineyard and a hands-on winery producing exceptional wines.

The Baker family believes this winery represents the American Dream: strong family, faith, sustainability and entrepreneurial spirit. Through teamwork and shared commitment, they strive to create wines that reflect the territory and balanced farming practices. Old Westminster Winery is a place to enjoy hand-crafted wines produced in an environmentally conscious way, build relationships and genuinely connect with the land.

Schooner Woodwind’s Dinner Cruises are a very casual affair. Courses are served picnic-style and food is presented chilled or at room temperature. You will thoroughly enjoy the event aboard. We really do sail, so wear soft soled shoes. And please, feel free to raise the sails, steer the boat, or sit back and relax.

Departs from Annapolis Marriott Waterfront Hotel at 5:30pm and return at 8:00pm.      Tickets are $109 per adult and include dinner and taxes, four 5-ounce wine pours, soda and water. Maximum 35 guests.

Sept 14: History Cruise: Tunes & Tales of the Golden Age of Annapolis: Tom Guay

Tom Guay is a young novelist, musician, and member of the legendary folk band, The Eastport Oyster Boys. Tom brings tune and tales of the Golden Age of Annapolis 1765-1783, to the Schooner Woodwind. The stories are about the glorious history of Annapolis when it was know as the Athens of the Colonies

Sept 17:  Sailing Cruise with live music aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind:  Enjoy music performed by local musicians during a two hour sunset cruise aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind.

Mike and Kelly Lange are a husband and wife ukulele duo.  Lifelong boaters, Mike & Kelly sing original and classic material, some with a maritime theme and some with a broader reach.

Mike has played thousands of gigs in the mid-Atlantic and a handful overseas during the past several decades. Over the years he has performed with many popular bands in the Baltimore/Washington area both as a bandleader, member, and freelance musician. His original music has been featured on numerous radio stations in the mid-Atlantic area including WRNR, WPFW, WTMD, and WHFS as well as many independent radio stations overseas.  Mike is best known for performing with the Eastport Oyster Boys, Tiki Barbarians, and Boogie Express bands. Known as an accomplished pianist, Mike plays ukulele and melodica on the Woodwind.Having spent years performing in choirs and plays, Kelly is well known for her beautiful voice and tasteful strumming on her mango tenor ukulele.

Oct. 14:  The Annual Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race Start Watch aboard the Schooner Woodwind II:  Join in the excitement and watch the start of the race. Tickets* are $83/adult and $45/child under 12 yrs. (with children’s lunch) and include a box lunch, bottled water, soft drinks, and snacks. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Cruise departs from Annapolis City Marina in Eastport at 12pm and returns at 3pm.  Maximum of 35 guests.

*$10 of each ticket purchased will be donated to the Great Chesapeake Bay Schooner Race, a non-profit organization that races to save the Bay in conjunction with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

Oct 17Lighthouses of the Chesapeake Bay Sailing Cruise aboard the 74-foot Schooner Woodwind:  Sail by as many as 3 different lighthouses while learning about their history, importance, and present day condition from a guest lecturer from the Chesapeake Chapter of the US Lighthouse Society. The cruise includes a box lunch, soft drinks and snacks. Beer and wine are available for purchase.
