Navy head women’s basketball coach Stefanie Pemper announced today the hiring of Ashley Langford as an assistant coach. Langford comes to Navy from the University of Denver where she had been an assistant for the last three seasons.
“I am really excited to add Ashley to our staff,” said Pemper. “She was the first person to apply after Alison became the head coach at Bates and after a month-long search she remained at the top of my list. Her passion for basketball, her hard work recruiting and her ability to teach the game, are her biggest strengths. She’s learned from a couple of the best in our profession in Nell Fortner and Lisa Stockton, and I trust she’ll be a great fit on our staff.”

Coach Pemper is a proven winner and I am eager to learn from her and contribute to the program in any way I can.”
At Denver, Langford served as the recruiting coordinator and was responsible for coaching the backcourt. She took over the offensive coordinator role last year.
Prior to coaching at Denver, Langford was an assistant at Bucknell for one season and a graduate assistant at Auburn for two years.
During Langford’s time at Bucknell she was responsible for the guards, in addition to handling the team’s travel arrangements and itinerary. As a graduate assistant at Auburn, aside from earning her master’s degree in business administration in May of 2012, Langford also managed the Tigers’ student managers and practice players, as well as assisting with practices, recruitment and the day-to-day operations.
Before stepping into the coaching profession, Langford was a standout player at Tulane earning All-Conference USA honors three times. During her four-year career, Langford became the program’s all-time leader in assists (722) and finished her career with the top four single-season assists and assists per game marks in Tulane history. She also left the program No. 1 in games started (121) and minutes played (4,162), in addition to finishing near the top in points (1,047), points per game (8.4) and steals (234), among many others in Tulane history.
After becoming the Green Wave’s first player to receive Freshman All-America honors from the Women’s Basketball New Service, she finished among the top 26 nationally in assists all four years, including finishing fifth (6.58) as a freshman.
Off the court, Langford was named the 2009 C-USA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She also received the conference’s Postgraduate Scholarship and Spirit of Service Award that same season. Langford graduated from Tulane in 2009 with bachelor’s degrees in management and marketing (double major) before heading to C-USA as an intern in the Sports Services, Finance and Marketing Departments. Langford previously interned in the Tulane athletics office in 2008, assisting with sales promotions and the National Basketball Events in Chicago, as well as managing a facility for the Nike Girls’ Basketball Tournament in 2007.
Langford replaces Alison Montgomery, who was named the head women’s basketball coach at Bates College on June 3.
