Disabled veteran pays it forward with Blasting for the Brave

Screenshot 2015-07-15 21.33.59Retired Army veteran, Captain Ferris Butler and his wife, Laura, announce their second annual fundraiser, Blasting for the Brave, to support two top-rated military nonprofits. ‘Blasting for the Brave: Round 2’ is a Sporting Clays Tournament and family fun day that will take place on Saturday, September 19th at the Point at Pintail on Maryland’s eastern shore.

Since Captain Butler lost both of his feet due to an IED explosion in Iraq in late 2006, the Butler’s have been assisted by countless nonprofits that they credit with their seamless transition out of the military. As a way to pay forward and say thank you to those who supported them when they needed it most, the Butler’s are hosting this sporting clays fundraiser and family fun day to benefit two organizations that are positively impacting veterans. This event will bring together the local community to celebrate our nation’s service members and the nonprofits that continue to support their reintegration into civilian life.

The sporting clays tournament will be accompanied by a family fun day that will include fishing, moon bounces, face painting, live chainsaw carving, a silent auction, an exhibition sporting clays shooter, a catered lunch, and much more! This year, the event will benefit Project Healing Waters and Homes for our Troops. Project Healing Waters is a Maryland-based nonprofit that shares the healing powers of fly-fishing with disabled veterans all across the country. They were responsible for Ferris’ first adventure out of the hospital many years ago and continue to aid in his recovery to this day. Founded in 2004, Homes for Our Troops has proudly built 189 accessible homes across the country for our nation’s most severely injured service members. They proudly maintain their 4-star charity rating with 90 cents of every dollar going directly to veteran programs. Ferris and Laura moved into their Homes for Our Troops house in 2010 on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
