BAROAK’s Teddy Folkman to be featured at Governor’s cookout this afternoon

Baroak_logoBAROAK Cookhouse & Taproom at the Loews Annapolis Hotel is pleased to announce Executive Chef Teddy Folkman’s “Naptown Moules (Rules!)” recipe has been selected by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to be a part of the Governor’s Buy Local Cookout.

The 8th Annual Buy Local Cookout, an invitation-only event, will be held on Thursday, July 16 at the Government House in Annapolis and will feature 15 local chefs and their chosen appetizers, sides, salads, entrees and desserts. The event celebrates Maryland’s Buy Local Challenge Week, July 18-26, and encourages all Marylanders to eat at least one locally grown, made or harvested product each day.

Folkman’s moules (mussels) recipe includes ingredients from local producers Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick County for The Truth Imperial IPA; Arnold Farms in Queen Anne’s County for corn; and Roma Gourmet Foods in Baltimore City for Roma Old Bay sausage.

“Naptown Moules (Rules!)” will also be published in the 2015 Buy Local Cookout Recipes cookbookwhich will include wine, beer or spirits pairing recommendations from the Maryland Wineries AssociationBrewers Association of Maryland and the newly formed Maryland Distillers Guild. The cookbook will also be available online.

“The Buy Local Cookout is a great opportunity to showcase the many businesses that support our farmers through buying local — from grocery store chains, to distributors, restaurants and institutions,” said Governor Hogan. “Buying local gives consumers fresher, more nutritious and better-tasting food, and it helps to keep Maryland’s agricultural industry strong, diverse and sustainable. I thank all of the talented chefs who submitted recipes this year.”

Mussels are one of the chef’s specialties at BAROAK, which opened in March. Case in point, Folkman’s mussels were victorious against Iron Chef Bobby Flay in a “Moules Frites” battle on Food Network’s “Throwdown with Bobby Flay.” BAROAK offers a wide variety of mussels on the menu, including curry, rustic tomato, bleu, mariniere, and a mussel of the day. BAROAK www.baroakannapolis.com is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and weekend brunch.
