Bard in the Garden: Shakespeare coming to ASGT for 3 nights only

MSCs R-J PosterFor three nights only, the Maryland Shakespeare Company (MSC) will be welcomed back to the Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre (ASGT) stage to present one of William Shakespeare’s classic plays under the stars. At 8:30pm on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday July 6-8, MSC will transport audiences to the streets of Verona, Italy in Romeo and Juliet, the Bard’s classic tale of love and loss.

Tickets are $15 (general seating) and can be reserved by calling 410-268-9212. For more information, visit www.summergarden.com.

Eight MSC performers tackle 20 roles in this fast-paced play, complete with live music, advanced fight choreography, colorful costumes, and more. Four of the actors—Eben Kuhns, Stephanie LaVadera, Emily Karol, and Neel Madan—have spent the last three months performing a four-person version of Romeo and Juliet  in middle schools across Maryland as part of Shakespeare Alive!, MSC’s educational tour.

MSC is a professional classical theatre company in residence at Goucher College in Towson. Local audiences will recall their lively productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Twelfth Night, presented at ASGT in 2012 and 2013. MSC nurtures and supports independent actors in the Shakespearean tradition, emphasizing original Shakespearean stage practices both in the rehearsal room and on the stage. This creates a powerful connection between the actors and the audience, making viewers truly a part of the action.

ASGT is an all-volunteer outdoor community theatre presenting its 50th season of “theatre under the stars” in downtown Annapolis. In 1967 and again from 1998-2005, ASGT produced Shakespearean plays for Annapolis audiences as part of their regular season. MSC’s production is the first Romeo and Juliet to be presented on the ASGT stage.
